Did Halloween produce one of the most notorious killers of all time?

In the spirit of All Hallows Eve, we thought that we would once again revisit the classic 1978 namesake film, through which we were first introduced to Michael Myers.

I can of course remember when the movie hit the theaters in my hometown, an era when direct to video or HBO wasn’t even a concept and the big screen allure with corresponding surround sound provided the ideal setting for being scared out of one’s seat.

Unlike Hitchcock’s classic “Psycho” where the “cover your eyes” and “don’t go in there” moments of abject terror were confined to short bursts in admittedly powerful scenes . . . it took me more than a year to wash my hair in the shower with my eyes closed, once the killing started in Halloween it was a non-stop, heart palpitating marathon until the final credits rolled.

This of course got me thinking, was Michael Myers the most threatening serial killer to appear on the silver screen?

Personally speaking Myers is obviously not someone I would like to meet in the back tool shed late at night but, I am certain that some of you may consider him an also ran in the company of other killers such as Freddy Krueger, Norman Bates or Hannibal Lecter.

Now’s your chance to cast your vote as to who you believe is the most terrifying serial killer in the history of the movies through our poll below.

In the meantime, and as daylight gives way to dusk and then the darkness of night remember one thing . . . don’t go in the basement!
